The latest creation by the team behind Moonlighter called "Cataclismo," is a fortification-themed strategy title that is now available in its preliminary release phase

Cataclismo, the latest innovative offering by the esteemed development team at Digital Sun, known for their successful title Moonlighter, has recently entered the gaming world in the form of an early access release. This launch marks a significant milestone in the game's development journey, inviting players to experience the emerging world of Cataclismo while contributing to its final shape through their invaluable feedback and gameplay insights.

In entering its early access phase, Cataclismo promises to not only capitalize on the legacy of engaging storytelling and captivating game mechanics established by Moonlighter but also to expand upon it by introducing new features, enhanced gameplay elements, and a vibrant, evolving game environment that thrills and challenges its audience. With a foundation built on player-centric development, Digital Sun aims to meticulously polish every aspect of Cataclismo, ensuring that the final version will be an epitome of gaming excellence that aligns with the high standards set by its celebrated predecessor.

This game made a memorable appearance at the 2023 Humble Games showcase and caught eyes again during the Triple-i showcase in April, sparking considerable curiosity. Adding to its pedigree, the game is released under the banner of Hooded Horse, known for publishing Manor Lords.

Cataclismo offers a fresh take on the strategy genre, infusing elements of real-time gameplay with the mechanics of tower defense. Players are given the task of constructing an impregnable stronghold to repel the continuous onslaught of demonic adversaries, set against the backdrop of a distinctive, moonlight-infused visual aesthetic.

In an announcement on Steam, the creator emphasizes the exceptional value of incorporating input from the game's audience during its final phases of development. This approach bears similarity to successful releases such as Hades 2, No Rest for the Wicked, and Baldur's Gate 3, all of which initially debuted in early access.

Currently, the game features a fully-voiced narrative spanning eleven distinct stages, with further additions anticipated prior to the official release of version 1.0. Additionally, players can enjoy a Tactical Mode, Immortal mode, an elaborate Stage Designer, and support for Steam Workshop to facilitate community-shared designs.

As the game evolves during its Early Access phase, expect to see new environments, functionalities, and game formats introduced, such as expanded options for the Immortal mode and extra stages for the principal storyline, as indicated by the Steam announcement. Despite the uncertainty regarding the exact timing for the debut of version 1.0, the development roadmap suggests that early parentage will extend well into the initial segment of 2025.

The statement goes on: "Since releasing Moonlighter over half a decade ago, the acclaim we've achieved stems directly from our player community's enthusiasm. Whether Cataclismo marks your introduction to Digital Sun's creations or you've been with us since the epic tales of Will, your involvement has been integral to our narrative."

Christian Donlan of Eurogamer experienced Cataclismo firsthand some time ago and left feeling very taken by the game. He suggests that the appeal is twofold: simple pleasures that are deeply gratifying coupled with the constant proximity to calamity.
