Ncuti Gatwa Wins Praise as the Unmatched Doctor in Latest Doctor Who Reviews

Initial critiques of Ncuti Gatwa's portrayal in Doctor Who have hailed him as the series' unparalleled Doctor. The debut assessments for the latest season of Doctor Who, featuring Ncuti Gatwa taking the helm as the Fifteenth Doctor, have surfaced – yielding an array of lauds.

The audience was introduced to the Fifteenth Doctor momentarily during the 60th-anniversary celebration. His formal debut was in the Doctor Who Christmas Special titled 'The Church on Ruby Road,' where he crosses paths with his new ally Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson – together facing off against melodious, infant-devouring creatures. The inaugural two episodes, 'Space Babies' and 'The Devil's Chord,' are scheduled for release on Saturday, May 11.

"The pairing of Gatwa and Gibson is exceptional, while Jinkx Monsoon dazzles with sinister vibrancy in a duo of episodes that set a thrilling pace for the season ahead. The concept of Space Babies might be debatable, though," penned GamesRadar+'s Will Salmon.

Furthermore, The Guardian extolled Jinx Monsoon's portrayal of the new antagonist, noting, "Monsoon’s flamboyant villainy adds a chilling dimension."

"Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson infuse the venerable sci-fi saga with delight and fancy," lauded Christian Hoffer of ComicBook.com.

"Only two episodes in, yet the fresh Doctor Who season has established itself as audacious, vigorous, and compassionate; despite occasional cheesiness and clumsiness, its enthusiasm and vigor are invigorating," observed Michael Boyle from Slash Film.

"It’s Gatwa’s luminous portrayal that lifts the season. His brilliant smile and vibrant attire bring a new dynamic to the role, presenting the season as a captivatinly distinctive spectacle," recounted Aramide Tinubu from Variety.

"Watching Gatwa on screen is thoroughly enjoyable, and his charm is as radiant as the most acclaimed Doctor," remarked Mick Joest of CinemaBlend. "His presence made it clear I've been longing for a Doctor of his calibre, and I'm thrilled he's arrived."

Doctor Who season 1 is set to premiere on the BBC iPlayer and BBC One on May 11, featuring the initial two episodes, with subsequent episodes following on a weekly basis. Internationally, season 1 will be available on Disney Plus starting May 10.
